The Uprights The Separator

Background of the QWICK KURB® System of Channelization:

In the 1980's QWICK KURB® was developed in Germany to improve traffic flow in construction zones on the Autobahn. The Autobahn Authority sought a sturdy and highly observable traffic separator, but one sufficiently narrow to limit encroachment on travel lanes. In 1995 the technology was licensed to QWICK KURB® , INC. for use in North America.

Since that time, use of the system has evolved so that it is deployed much more often in permanent configurations than in construction zones. Nevertheless, its construction zone ancestry has served the system well in achieving high performance characteristics.

The system integrates horizontal and vertical channelization to achieve optimum motorist compliance with needs of the traffic engineers.
Among key characteristics of the horizontal elements are:

•Interconnection Of Horizontal Elements - Maintains Roadway Position
•Crush Resistant - Does Not Crumble Or Shatter Like Lightweight Plastics
•Does Not Cause Vaulting (See NCHRP 350 Acceptance Letter)
•All Weather Durability
•Highly Observable At Night
•Tapered Ends
•Water Drainage
•Ease Of Installation
•Re-Usable
